Hello.
I am a Japanese college student. I love manga/anime.
And now,I want to know why people loves Japanese manga/anime.
Do you like Japanese manga/anime?
Why do you love Japanese manga ?
What is Japanese manga's appeal that difference from American comic?
please give me your opinion.

I like it because it shows a world where heroes are real and great actions are possible. It is fun to imagine doing more than ordinary things, especially when one's own life is boring. Everyone wishes to become someone greater, but in reality most people will always be unimportant. One can only be be great in one's imagination. Japanese stories dare to dream big. That makes them more inspiring than other stories.
Uh...If we're on a forum called anime2manga we would like anime and manga, wouldn't we? Anyways, here's why:
a). The variety of genres. Face it, there's a lot more manga than american comic books. Same can be said for anime vs American cartoons.
b). Addiction. I grew up on it and let me face it, it's addiction.
c). It's Japanese. Or maybe just Asian. I know that's an extremely racist comment but that's true for me and I know it's true for a lot of other people.
Maruko's question has made me wonder what it is that makes anime distinctive. In terms of plot, characters and themes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is similar to many anime series. Why watch anime vampire hunters instead of Buffy? American cartoons have traditionally been for children, but now there are lots of animated shows aimed at adults. Why watch anime instead of Futurama or Boondocks? Is is simply because it's Japanese? If so, why should Japanese pop culture be considered cooler? Is it because it seems exotic and alien to Americans? Or is it the opposite? Are these stories appealing because the Japanese have captured what is universal in the wishes and dreams of young people? Japan has been called "the would's leading exporter of fantasy." Why are they so successful at it?
Ok, this is gonna be fun. For simplicity sake, let's do this one step at a time. *takes a deep breath*

No actually, I'm just a parasitic existence that just happens to reside in a site called anime2manga and coincidentally write about anime/manga too. I love manga because I have a 2-D fetish tis just awesome like that, no questions asked. Japanese manga's appeal is that there's actually a plot (most of the time), the characters actually have a life (some of the time), and people don't go around wearing triangular tights (I don't even want to know if there are times for otherwise...).

I don't watch Buffy because you can't make her guts explode and still not die. Who the hell said I don't watch Futurama? And please, no talking Japanese alcoholic tin pots thanks. Japanese pop culture should be considered cooler because it is done in the ways of the Asians, and we must uphold our asian pride for the sake of the motherland. Of course it's vastly different from American stuff, tis culture from 1/4th way across the globe dude. I have no idea if Japanese have captured the wishes and dreams of young people, but they sure have captured their wallets. Japanese are so successful and called "the world's leading exporter of fantasy" because they live in the world of tomorrow, technologically (damn they got awesome crap there), economically (the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, and where better to start than their wallets?) and literally (GMT +0900 anyone?).
I've probably offended countless people through this post alone. And in case you don't know where my sarcasm began...well, can't really help you there, surely I wouldn't have the cure to such severe oblivion. *exhales deep breath* Well, that was extremely satisfying. Ok, you can shoot me now.
Maruko is trying to write a paper on "Why Americans Like Anime". I thought asking some more specific questions would help her get more answers. I guess she picked the wrong forum to post on, because there don't seem to be many Americans here. I've got nothing against Asian pride (I'm ethnically Filipino). I'm just sorry she didn't get more help.
I'm know I'm a bit late jumping in on this topic, but better late then never, right?
I really like anime and manga (big surprise there right ;P) but I'm also a big fan of American comics and cartoons. I tend to choose anime over cartoons because anime tends to be more mature then cartoons. A lot of US television companies think that only young children should be watching animation. Thats not to say there aren't good ones out there, your examples of Futurama and Boondocks, or even better, my favorite US animation is Thundercats. As for comic books to manga, they both can turn out really good and don't suffer so much from an immature stigma, so for me it just comes down to the mood I'm in.
Why would I watch anime vampire hunters over Buffy? Well thats easy, I don't care for live action as much as animation because its alot easier to make things look awesome when your not dealing with physical limitations. Well that and I just don't like Buffy.

Thank you for your help.It is true that I have trouble with my questions. You taught me that I should go to another site. And I think that I will do so.
Thank you.
I like Japanese comics and cartoons for the same reason I like any kind of comic or cartoon. There are a lot of talented people in the industry and there is a vast variety of subject matter. The fact that the creator is Japanese has no meaning to me.
Because of the story and short text and in anime it has blood violence
and storys are good
