It's not about the first anime that you've seen but the first one that made you a fan. The one that made you collect stuff, skip school, and other. ^_^
For me, it would be Dragon Ball Z. I still remember when I first saw it which was like 13 years ago. I would stay at home even if we had family trips and vacation just to watch DBZ.
So what's yours?
Eh...that's actually a really good question. I actually need to do some research if I want to find out the anime. It's not like I forgot or anything, but not only was I 7-ish when I watched it, but it was in Chinese, so I really have no idea what the title of show is.
The show had the hero pilot this funky mecha that can be summoned by putting a coin into the egg(manjyuu?)-shaped creature(?) perched on the main's shoulder. His initial quest is to wake (purify?) the other mecha dudes so he can face off the final evil boss (lol good old times). He had an archenemy that always appear in front of him and gets blasted away every ep, and if memory serves the dude's name is ringo? Errrr yeah something to that effect, sorry for the crappy description, my memory sucks. Would anyone happen to know the name to this anime?
There's actually 2 other kiddy mecha anime of fairly equal importance, but I like the one above the most out of the 3, plus I don't know the names of the other series either lol. Just for the record, I'm not a diehard mecha fan, but there's things you do as a child that you no longer do when you've grown a little lol.
Cardcaptor Sakura. Or shall I say the dubbed version of "Cardcaptors". I cried when it stopped airing on KidsWB. Come on, I was 9 then. Almost 6 years have gone by

Ahh... Sakura-chan off the air... I share your pain ^^
Back when I still lived in Hong Kong a dozen years ago, I bought every Doraemon manga that was available. In vol.6 where Doraemon made his (temporary) departure it made me tear up too.. *sniff sniff* Come on, I was 9 then. lol true for me too
^ ooohh.. I love Doraemon too! It's a very good stress reliever. ^_^
the one that 'hooked' me if you will was Robotech aka Macross, I mean yeah Cardcaptors and Sailor Moon was there too, but Robotech was kinda like 'hey sup I'm anime' and I was like 'sw33t' so I suppose it was just that I figured out everything else was an anime after.
Escaflowne ... or rather, "Foxaflowne," as we called the kiddified version that I watched on Saturday mornings so long ago. I watched Digimon, Pokemon, and SuperBook (etc.) before that, but it wasn't until Escaflowne that I knew what anime was--and actually hunted down the VHS tapes (I didn't have a DVD player at the time). Eight DVDs and many, many viewings later, it's still my favorite series ^_^
The anime series that first stole my life (and also happens to be the reason all the used video stores owners around here know me) was Guyver. I had to hope that the used video stores had it used since that was before the internets and as far as I know Guyver never was on US tv.
xO I remember Guyver! Wow! I feel olddddddddd when I think of Guyver. Anime that first stole my life would have to be Sailor Moon. And not when it was on Toonami. I'm talking UPN channel at 6:00am when it was paired with DragonballZ. I watched it in 7th grade when I was getting ready for school. xD wow I seriously feel old. being otakii for almost 13 years. ~_~
sailor moon n doraemon were the ones that got me hooked on anime. when i was bak in da philippines
